North Queensland construction companies called to tender for 22 houses in Doomadgee

The Palaszczuk Government has called on eligible North Queensland builders to tender for the construction of 22 new government employee residences in Doomadgee.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said the works would deliver on the government’s commitments to jobs and frontline services in remote communities.

“This project will deliver 22 new residences for government employees and their families, including teachers, doctors and nurses,” Mr de Brenni said.

“We’re looking for North Queensland companies who can build 10 one bedroom units, as well as four units with two bedrooms, three houses with three bedrooms, four houses with four bedrooms, and a single house with five bedrooms.

“This is a significant project for the remote community of Doomadgee and will provide a pipeline of construction jobs for locals, including carpenters, electricians, concreters, plumbers, floor layers, glaziers, and cabinet makers.

“I strongly encourage every eligible local business to put in a tender for this opportunity.”

Minister Assisting the Premier on North Queensland and Ministerial Champion for Doomadgee Coralee O’Rourke said the Palaszczuk Government is committed to closing the gap in Queensland's remote communities.

“We know how important frontline services like health and education are for improving outcomes for people in remote communities like Doomadgee, but construction projects like these are even more valuable because of the employment and training opportunities they provide,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“Beyond the provision of government employee housing, this project will improve health, education, and employment outcomes into the future.”
