$689 million more for infrastructure and roads in North Queensland North Queensland will see construction booming over the next year with $689 million delivered through the Palaszczuk Government’s 2017-18 Budget. Acting Premier and Minister for Infrastructure Jackie Trad said that the funding would support 1,900 jobs over the next year. “The Palaszczuk Government is serious about investing in the infrastructure each region needs,” Ms Trad said. Health and Ambulance Services Minister Cameron Dick, who is visiting Townsville today said that the Government is working with councils across Queensland to build projects that make a real difference to communities and deliver local jobs. Minister Assisting the Premier on North Queensland Coralee O’Rourke said safe and reliable roads were essential to keep North Queenslanders moving. “Roads in the north were overlooked by the LNP who put projects on hold and cut infrastructure funding, hurting businesses and workers,” Mrs O’Rourke said. “We know safe roads are needed to keep our North Queensland communities connected and we are getting on with the job with key projects like Riverway Drive and Bruce Highway upgrades.” Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said the funding was essential. “The road projects will allow motorists to spend less time in the car and more time at home with family and friends,” Mr Stewart said. “This is in conjunction with the delivery of our major infrastructure projects including the North Queensland Stadium, Port of Townsville upgrades, a new primary school in Burdell and vital hospital upgrades.” Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper said the projects are part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $42 billion infrastructure spend over the next four years. “The Palaszczuk Government is committed to continuing to invest in vital infrastructure funding, building our roads network, boosting productivity, creating jobs and fostering economic growth,” Mr Harper said. “We’re repairing the damage done by the LNP who slashed roads funding by $600 million and stalled countless projects across Queensland.” Projects partly or fully funded in this Budget include:
