$400 million Works for Queensland program to continue to create regional jobs Regional Queensland has been delivered a major Budget windfall with an extra $200 million over two years allocated to councils through the Palaszczuk Government’s successful Works for Queensland Program. Acting Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Jackie Trad said the additional funding meant the program will pump a total of $400 million into local communities throughout the state. “This funding is about jumpstarting projects and getting people working as soon as possible,” Ms Trad said. “Across regional Queensland councils are telling us that this program is creating jobs, building great community infrastructure and that they want to see more invested. We have listened and we are delivering. “Current projects in construction range from roadworks to upgrading parks and playgrounds and even delivering renewable energy infrastructure. “Our initial Works for Queensland spend saw councils have more than 700 projects approved, supporting almost 6,000 jobs across our regions. “We know that these projects are having an enormously positive impact on regional communities and I’m excited to see this continued. “Every member of the Palaszczuk Government is absolutely focused on creating local jobs and the extension of this program shows our commitment to regional communities. “So we want councils to get on board again and put their proposals on the table.” Every council in the region will benefit with additional funds allocated to:
Councils are encouraged to nominate projects for the second round of funding by 28 July, 2017. All approved projects are expected to be completed by June 2019.
